Mocha Dick was the real life inspiration for Herman Melville’s novel “Moby Dick”. He was a while sperm whale first seen off the coast of Mocha Island in Chile during the early 19th century. He destroyed around 20 whaling ships, and escaped from 80 more, but was eventually killed in 1838 while coming to the defence of a mother and baby sperm whale being attacked by whalers.
In honour of Mocha Dick’s life, and the lives of all whales at threat from whalers today, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this cuddly Mocha Dick will be donated to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.
He is approximately 15 inches (39 cm) long, 3 inches (7 cm) wide and 3 inches (7 cm) tall, and is made of soft minky fabric. He has acrylic safety eyes, and is stuffed with polyfibre stuffing. His fins are backed with quilt batting.
